I recently went on a 3 day kayaking/camping trip at Asseteague Island National Seashore using a 10' 11" kayak. Packing space was limited and the DD A-Frame Tent and DD Mesh Tent worked out perfectly with no concerns. This super light tent combination saved on consider storage space and weight as compared to another tent that I was going to pack until I came across the DD SuperLight tents you are carrying. The combination along with my Hennessy Hammock will be my go to sleeping gear from now on. The DD SuperLight tent(s) can be set up quickly, I used two light weight tarp poles as my tent support poles, without any problems. If you are looking for a lightweight, easy pack-able and easy setup tent arrangement, I would recommend that you check out the DD SuperLight - A-Frame Tent along with the DD SuperLight Mesh Tent. One other note, the two tents can be used independently or combined to cover your shelter needs.
I'm 72 years old and grew up roaming the woods and swamps of the Deep South; trekking, camping, backpacking, you-name-it and I've done it -- more than a few times. With that said, this DD Superlight A-frame is the absolute best design I've ever come across (and that's saying something).
Dave's video shows it as an a-frame and a lean-to with sides, but the thing that I like most is that it can be pitched as a Baker, or Campfire, tent. This takes it squarely into the realm of the cold-weather emergency shelter. Bank the bottom of the walls with leaves or needles, build a small reflector fire just beneath the properly-angled "fly", etc., and you will sleep warm in all but the very-coldest nights.
And at less than 2 pounds carry-weight, you can't beat it (even with a stick!) []
Very disappointed in the DD Super light A-frame. The stitching is very cheaply done and it's a pain to set up. With the tent properly staked out you the side entrance zippers will not work properly. You have to either leave it open or zip only one side closed because it's so tight the other side will not come all the way together. Just real cheap for it's price, a cheap tent from Walmart is a better investment.
Purchased the DD A- Frame back in February or March. Took it out for first time this weekend and while setting it up for the first time had a tent stake loop come right off!!! Stichhing is very cheap, way overpriced for the quality
