Stay prepared for medical emergencies in remote and wilderness settings with this Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid course. Aligned with OSHA Best Practices and Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines, you will learn advanced first aid skills, including adult CPR/AED, to identify and manage traumatic and medical emergencies. Through classroom learning, scenario-based exercises, and wilderness skill lessons, you will be equipped with the tools to help you and your team survive challenging environments.
Duration: 4 day 3 nights
The registration deadline is 2 weeks prior to class start date.
Prerequisites: Must beĀ at least 14 years old andĀ have passedĀ theĀ Pathfinder Basic Survival Class. Any student under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult that is registered for this class.
Certification:
- 2 Year American Red Cross Certification (Wilderness and Remote First Aid, CPR & AED).
- Digital Wilderness and Remote First Aid certificate available upon successful completion of course
Course Length:
- Students must attend the full course to getĀ the certifications
- 1-hour lunch around 12pm each day
- 2-hour night scenario on Saturday evening and 4 hour final practical and written evaluation on Sunday (successful completion receives patch)

In addition to Dave Canterbury and additional Pathfinder School instructors,Ā Kyle Sanborn & Vaskin Badalow will be teaching this class. Ā They have yearsā of experience in EMS.
Vaskin is a career Firefighter and Paramedic with over thirty years of service; a Wilderness EMT certified through NOLS, certified American Red Cross First Aid CPR/AED Instructor, and holds a Master of Science in Emergency Management and Homeland Security.Ā

The course will incorporate the 10 C's of Survivability. Please separate the 10 C's into an easily accessible backpack or haversack (shoulder bag) as these will be used during this course and many others at the Pathfinder School.

Ā IMPORTANT: This class will require hikes of 2+ miles at a time in possibly very muddy and uneven while carrying your gear. Port-a-Pots are located approximately 400 yards from the base camp near the parking area. Water is available from jugs always located in Base Camp.
If you suffer from a medical condition or chronic pain, please bring your prescribed medicines with you. If you have recently undergone surgery or a hospital stay within the last 30 days, DO NOT attempt this course until you have had more time to recuperate.
Due to property insurance restrictions:Ā There will beĀ NOĀ camping on the school property prior to the start of the class or after the class concludes.
If you need to cancel..
Once you purchase a class for The Pathfinder School, the Pathfinder Gathering, or for a Self Reliance Outfitters store event, you have up to 14 days before the event or class to cancel and receive a refund. This provides us time to open the spot for someone else to purchase.Ā
Any cancellations past that threshold will not be eligible for a refund. A cancellation due to an emergency will be handled on a case-by-case basis and will only be eligible for a store gift card.
If you do not show up for a class or event your registration fees are forfeited, and no refunds or store credits will be issued.
If a class gets canceled...
We require a minimum of 5 to 10 students to conduct a class (depending on the class).Ā If a class needs to be cancelled due to an insufficient number of registrations, you will be contacted by phone or email. You will then have the option to transfer to another class (if available), receive a store gift card, or a refund.
